1. Tooth Preparation

  • Clean and isolate the tooth using a rubber dam or cotton rolls.

  • Remove carious tissue and shape the cavity appropriately.

  • If using composite, etch, rinse, and apply bonding agent as per protocol.

2. Placing the Mylar Strip

  • Select the appropriate size and thickness of the strip.

  • Wrap the strip around the tooth, ensuring it conforms to the natural tooth contour.

  • Make sure it extends slightly below the gingival margin to prevent overhangs.

  • Secure the strip using one of the following:

    • Finger pressure during composite placement, or

    • Interproximal wedge to stabilize the strip and ensure a tight seal.

3. Composite Placement & Shaping

  • Place the composite in incremental layers to ensure proper curing and adaptation.

  • Use a plastic or Teflon-coated instrument to shape and contour the material to the tooth anatomy.

4. Light Curing

  • The transparent Mylar strip allows full light penetration, enabling direct curing.

  • Cure from multiple angles (buccal, lingual, and incisal) to ensure complete polymerization.

5. Removing the Mylar Strip

  • After curing, gently remove the strip in a buccolingual or incisal direction to prevent disrupting the restoration.

  • Remove any excess material or flash around the restoration margins.

6. Finishing & Polishing

  • Refine the restoration using fine finishing burs or abrasive polishing strips.

  • Check proximal contacts and occlusion, adjusting as necessary for comfort and functionality.

  • Ensures accurate tooth anatomy recreation

  • Saves time during interproximal restoration and finishing

  • Enhances aesthetics with a natural finish

  • Reduces risk of adjacent tooth bonding

  • Cost-effective bulk pack for clinical use

  • Suitable for anterior and posterior applications
