Preparation:

  • Ensure the patient is comfortably seated with appropriate anesthesia administered.
  • Verify the correct forceps needed for the tooth extraction based on its location and type.

Positioning:

  • Position yourself and the patient for optimal access and visibility.
  • Use appropriate lighting and retractors if necessary for better visualization.

Selecting the Forceps:

  • Choose the extraction forceps from the Waldent kit that matches the tooth to be extracted. Refer to the provided list for the specific tooth and its corresponding forceps.

Grasping the Tooth:

  • Hold the selected forceps in a comfortable grip, ensuring the serrated handles provide a firm hold.
  • Carefully maneuver the beaks of the forceps around the tooth to be extracted, ensuring a snug fit and proper alignment with the tooth's contour.

Engaging the Tooth:

  • Gently but firmly apply pressure to the tooth with the forceps, ensuring the beaks grasp the tooth securely.
  • Use controlled movements to loosen the tooth from its socket, avoiding excessive force that may cause damage to surrounding tissues.

Extracting the Tooth:

  • Once the tooth is sufficiently loosened, apply steady traction in the desired direction of extraction.
  • Use the sharp beaks of the forceps to sever the periodontal ligament (PDL) and facilitate the tooth's removal.
  • Maintain a steady grip on the forceps throughout the extraction process, adjusting the angle and direction as needed for optimal leverage.

Inspecting and Completing:

  • After the tooth is successfully extracted, carefully inspect the socket for any remaining fragments or debris.
  • Use appropriate instruments for socket debridement if necessary, ensuring a clean and smooth extraction site.
  • Provide post-operative instructions and any necessary follow-up care to the patient.

Cleaning and Sterilization:

  • Thoroughly clean the extraction forceps and any other instruments used according to standard protocols.
  • Autoclave the instruments at 135 degrees Celsius for proper sterilization before the next use.
